Some Q and A with Wendy...
Q. Where was your first job?
A. At a shoe store in a small, ridiculously unpopulated mall in Kitchener. My manager was a bit of a jerk (I hope he’s reading this ha ha) I actually cried because he got upset when I didn’t sell enough shoe care products. I was transferred to a bigger mall with a WONDERFUL manager soon after. (whew!)
Q. What do you love most about your career?
A. When someone begins to see their own potential. Sharing in that moment or any "ahha" moment.
Q. What are the 3 skills you require most to do your present job well?
* active listening (and hearing what isn’t said)
* championing
* juggling!! (keeping many balls in the air at once)
Q. What would you say is your greatest asset?
A. Empathy
Q. What is something people don’t know about you?
A. I was just asked this at a group event recently…most people don’t know that I was on the Romper Room show. That’s right, I am a celebrity!!
Q. What is your secret weapon?
A. I’m quite good at getting what I want…at bargaining and sometimes even manipulating (I’m embarrassed to admit)
Q. Do you have any faults?
A. I can be a procrastinator… and I struggle to be on time. (don’t talk to my husband about this – he will just “rub it in”)
Q. What is your best advice?
A. To err on the side of loving too much and forgiving too much.
Q. What can’t you live without?
A. Besides my husband and kids…. morning coffee, natural light
Q. If you could try your hand at another career for a year, what would you do?
A. University or Seminary professor.
Q. What has surprised you most in life?
A. It’s depth. More joy than I would have imagined and more pain than I would have imagined
Q. If you were granted one wish…
A. It would expire before I could decide what to choose. sigh…
Q. Currently reading?
A. Celebration of Disciplines and a novel called "Green"
Q. Anything you hate?
A. Hatred itself (and the ways it manifests)… other than hating sin.
Q. What do you love?
A. Meaningful, rich relationships… with God, family, friends. Getting to know people beyond the surface.
Q. What are you most proud of?
A. My family – I am soooo blessed!
Q. Favourite words of wisdom?
A. I narrowed it to 3. That’s the best I could do…
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Romans 12:2)
“Live life fully while you’re here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! You’re going to anyway, so you might as well enjoy the process. Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don’t try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human.”
(Anthony Robbins)
“Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for.” (Epicurus)
